The Conference is held in Rohnert Park approximately 60 miles (100 km) north of San Francisco. Despite the distance from the nearest major city, travel to the Conference site is straightforward.
There are three airports close to the conference, San Francisco International, Oakland, and Santa Rosa. San Francisco International hosts more than thirty international airlines and ten domestic airlines. Direct flights from around the globe are available. Eleven North American airlines serve Oakland, and flights are available from Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Portland Oregon, and Seattle to the Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa.
ICAVS-6 has arranged with Airport Express to provide discounted transportation to the conference site. Airport Express operates buses from San Francisco International every hour on the half-hour and every two hours from Oakland. ICAVS-6 plans to facilitate transportation to and from the area airports for conferees. We plan to collect flight information from conferees and inform Airport Express of the number of conferees traveling to or from the airport at any given time. If a sufficient number of conferees arrives at close to the same time Airport Express will devote a bus to the trip. As stated above, the Conference will offer discounted fares to and from the Conference site. If we can fill a bus from or to the airport the travel time will be reduced by 15 to 20 minutes. The discounted fares will not be available at the time of travel and must be purchased in advance.
Certainly rental cars are available in the San Francisco and Santa Rosa area. We wish international visitors to keep in mind that California is a large state and road travel times are not insignificant. Costs of rental cars can be quite high and visitors should be aware that extra fees and taxes are added to the daily rental rates. For example, Los Angeles may seem to be relatively close to the Conference site, but in reality it is about 700 km distant. Low cost flights are often found to Las Vegas, but airfare to Santa Rosa and back can be high. Alternatively, the drive from Las Vegas to the Conference site is approximately 1000 km.
